Imports of recyclable raw materials to the EU-27 in 2021, by category
The European Union (EU-27) imported some 46.8 million metric tons of recyclable raw materials from non-eu countries in 2021. Of this total, organic products of animal and vegetal origin was the largest category, with 24.8 million metric tons imported. This was followed by wood wastes, of which 5.8 million metric tons was imported. When looking at exports to non-EU countries, Iron and steel was the most exported waste category of EU member states.
