The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted the primary sales channels for garden products. In 2019, roughly 60 percent of sales went through DIY stores and garden centers, 16 percent through hyper and supermarkets, and about 13 percent through the web in one way or another. In March 2020, the coronavirus made the DIY stores collapse to 33 percent in favor of the hyper and supermarkets and the web. But, as the year progressed, hyper and supermarkets also dropped to seven percent. This was not the case for online sales (total online) which almost doubled in March before normalizing on a high level, and should remain in 2021 at 18 percent, five points higher than in 2019.
