Number of public and private universities in Kenya 2015-2022
As of 2022, Kenya counted 68 universities, of which 35 were public and 33 private. Compared to 2015, the number of public higher education institutions increased by 52 percent, against a 10 percent growth in the number of private institutions. In the 2022-2023 academic year, Kenya had approximately 563,000 students pursuing a university degree.
