Number of emigrants from South Africa 2000-2020, by gender
In 2020, cumulative South African emigrants amounted to roughly 915 thousand. Females constituted the majority, however, males were only slightly below. The number of emigrants increased by around 16.3 percent in the five years since 2015. Overall, an increasing trend in the number of people migrating from South Africa can be observed since 2000. The ratio between female and male migrants remained relatively stable during the period under review.
