Opinion on competitive advantage of female trans athletes in the U.S. 2021, by gender
There is an ongoing debate in the United States about whether transgender women should be allowed to play women's sports and compete against other female athletes. Current National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules state that transgender women can participate in women’s sports after undergoing one year of testosterone suppression treatment. During an April 2021 survey in the United States, 37 percent of male respondents and 28 percent of female respondents strongly agreed with the statement that transgender female athletes had a competitive advantage over non-transgender female athletes.
