Lot inventories declined in many major markets in the United States in 2022, with Miami and Jacksonville having had a significant decrease. This according to an index that measures how much space is available for new single-family home construction across the country. On a year-to-year basis, the aforementioned markets tightened the most as builders secured many lots for potential construction but also due to topography issues. The two cities with the least amount of lots included Miami and San Diego - indicating that space is especially tight in some of California's biggest cities.
