Violent crimes, homicides, and suicides had the highest weight in the economic impact of violence in Sub-Saharan Africa as of 2020. The category accounted for 35.6 percent of the economic cost of violence in the region, which reached 484 billion U.S. dollars adjusted for purchasing power parity. Expenditure with internal and private security had a share of 29 percent in the total economic impact.
