Japan: main reasons for bicycle accidents with children 2021

The largest share of accidents or close calls in traffic with children on bicycles in Japan occurred due to the child suddenly rushing out, according to a survey conducted among Japanese parents in April 2021. The survey revealed that besides sudden appearances, other common reasons for accidents and close calls involving bicycles were the usage of smartphones, headphones, or umbrellas while on the bike.

Original question: "Please tell us about the dangerous driving behavior of the opposite party when you encountered or almost encountered the accident."
Survey subjects were parents/guardians with elementary school to high school children riding their bicycles at least once a month.
