Monthly surveyed urban adult unemployment rate in China June 2021-2023
In June 2023, the surveyed unemployment rate of people between 25 and 59 years of age in urban areas of China ranged at 4.1 percent. Adult unemployment is commonly considerably lower than youth unemployment. Therefore, the total unemployment rate in urban areas of China is usually slightly higher than the adult unemployment rate.
On August 15, 2023, a spokesman of the National Bureau of Statistics of China announced that the publication of age specific unemployment data, including adult unemployment data, would be temporarily suspended. Mr. Fu said the statistical methodology for calculating age specific unemployment rates needed improvement and the publication of age specific unemployment data would be continued after the methodology has been adjusted.
