Volume of car import quota in Algeria from 2014-2018
The Algerian government capped the number of cars that can be imported into the country in a bid to force increased investment into local assembled cars. In 2018, the number of cars allowed to be imported was 50 thousand, which was a decrease of five thousand from the previous year. In 2014, the quota was at 600 thousand cars and the quota was reduced by 50 percent the following year. Moreover, in 2016, the largest drop in the period under review could be recognized with the cap reaching 79 thousand cars.
