As of the fiscal year 2021/2022, the government deficit was roughly 472.6 billion Egyptian pounds (which is comparable to 18.11 billion U.S. dollars). This was higher than the value for FY2020/2021, which amounted to nearly 424 billion Egyptian pounds (16.25 billion U.S. dollars). During the period under review, revenues generated by the government were lower than government spending, which led to a fiscal deficit.
