Domestic transportation in Scotland released 10.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2021, making it the most polluting sector in the country. The energy supply sector had previously been the largest contributor to Scottish GHG emissions, but emissions from this sector have decreased by more than 75 percent since 1990. By comparison, transportation emissions have seen little change over the past three decades.
