In June 2021, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib announced in an Instagram video that he was gay, making him the first openly gay player in the National Football League (NFL). During a June 2021 survey among LGBTQ+ adults, 16 percent of respondents stated that they were much more likely to watch NFL games following Nassib's announcement.
