The number of overseas departures of non-Australian citizens from Australia reached 66,920 in May 2021. This figure represents a significant decrease compared to May 2019, as the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted international travel across the globe. In an effort to contain the spread of the virus, the Australian government began implementing travel restrictions in early 2020.
