Percentage of women in national parliaments in African regions 2021
Southern Africa and East Africa registered a higher level of female participation in politics in the continent. As of 2020, women held on average around 31 percent of the seats in national parliaments in each of these African regions. On the other hand, West Africa had the weakest performance concerning gender equality in politics, with nearly 16 percent of seats in national parliaments held by women.
