Japan: share of bicycle insurance policies 2022

As of January 2023, around 63.5 percent of bicycle users in Japan had insurance providing for bicycle accidents, like a personal liability insurance policy, increasing from 56 percent in 2018. Within the last years, more and more prefectures in Japan have made it mandatory for bicycle users to take out such policies.

Original question: "Are you covered by an insurance that provides for bicycle accidents (personal liability insurance, etc.)?" Respondents who replied "probably insured" were counted as "insured".
