Kenya: mobile money usage by small business 2021

In March 2021, over 60 percent of micro and small enterprises in Kenya used mobile money for business transactions. The share slightly increased from 59 percent in February 2020. A huge shift in the use of mobile money by small businesses was measured, however, between 2018 and 2020, even before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In November 2018, only 18 percent of micro and small enterprises used mobile payments in Kenya.

* The survey was conducted over two waves. According to the source, "to track the progress of businesses in the sample, the wave two survey went back to the 603 businesses owners that were active in February 2020 and attempted to re-interview them in March 2021. In wave two, only 492 businesses could be traced from the original wave one sample of 603, and 442 business owners agreed to participate and completed the interview".
