Tunisia: number of stillbirths by governorate

In 2019, the governorate of Tunis reported the highest number of stillbirths in Tunisia with 414 cases. Sfax and Kairouan followed with 237 and 212 cases, respectively. The lowest number of stillborn children was reported in the governorate of Manouba and contributed to one single case. The numbers in the other governorates fluctuated significantly. The number of residents per governorate and its size played a role in the reported numbers. However, the actual figures might differ significantly since around 50 percent of the stillbirths in the country would not be reported or registered.

According to the source, a significant number of stillborn children does not get registered or reported. Such cases amount to more than 50 percent of the real cases of stillborn children. This indicates that the real number of stillborn children might be more than twice the numbers reported in the survey.
