Lead acid batteries had significantly lower gravimetric energy density compared with sodium-ion, lithium-ion, and lithium-sulphur batteries in 2020. With energy density higher than other types of batteries, lithium-sulphur batteries may be a way of moving beyond the limitations of lithium-ion battery technology and bring electrification to new areas.
