Medicare part D enrollees with OOP spending above catastrophic threshold, 2007-2019
From 2007 to 2019, the number of Medicare part D enrollees with out-of-pocket drug spending above the catastrophic threshold increased from 407 thousand to around 1.5 million. The catastrophic threshold was set at 6,550 U.S. dollars in 2019 and even once this threshold is met, a Medicare part D enrollee must still pay 5 percent of total drug costs (or 9.20 U.S. dollars for brand drugs or 3.70 U.S. dollars for generics).
This statistic presents the number of Medicare part D enrollees with out-of-pocket drug spending above the catastrophic threshold in a given year from 2007 to 2019 (in thousands).
