Global: Number of new AI unicorns Q2 2019-Q2 2021

The number of artificial intelligence (AI) startups reaching a valuation of one billion U.S. dollars or more, also called unicorns, has increase significantly in the past two quarters. In 2020, the number of new AI unicorns remained between two to four unicorns per quarter. In the first quarter of 2021, this figure increased to 18, to then increase to 24 new AI unicorns in the second quarter of 2021.
