Japan: pet insect supplies shipment value by type

In fiscal year 2020, the shipment value of breeding mats amounted to around 562 million Japanese yen, representing the largest share of pet supplies for insects shipped in Japan. Food products followed closely in second place, with approximately 502 million yen. That year, the total shipment value of insect supplies amounted to close to two billion yen.
Popular insects kept as pets in Japan include beetles such as stag beetles and rhinoceros beetles.
