In the years 2020 and 2021, copper accounted for the largest revenue share of any mineral commodity for the leading 40 mining companies worldwide, at 22 percent in 2020 and 24 percent in 2021. It is forecast to account for 22 percent in 2022. In 2020 and 2021, iron ore was the next largest revenue-generating mineral commodity for mining companies, at 20 percent of revenue in 2020 and 21 percent in 2021.
