Paper and paperboard accounts for the majority of annual curbside recyclable material generation per single-family household in the U.S. As of 2019, mixed paper accounted for an estimated 39.4 percent of annual household generation. while cardboard represented roughly 14 percent. Plastics accounted for an estimated 20 percent of generation, with PET bottles the most commonly found items.
