Between January 2020 and March 2021, global traffic to YouTube.com increased from desktop devices. In March 2021, close to 79 percent of the total visits to the YouTube website were made from desktop devices, while only 21.2 percent of the global traffic came from mobile devices. This is probably due to a large number of mobile users preferring to navigate the YouTube mobile app over the website version of the platform. Despite being pre-installed on a large number of smartphone models, in 2020, YouTube was among the leading video apps worldwide based on number of downloads.

According to the source:"We pulled 15,000 keywords from our Google Keywords Database, which triggered a Featured Video result on the SERP. We took a look at YouTube’s top 10 search results for each of these keywords to check how different video features affect their positions in YouTube search. Based on this data, we gathered a wide range of metrics to assess which of them affect videos’ performance. [...] We used median values instead of average values to compare metrics for different positions since they are more resistant to outliers."
