Opinions on environmental impacts of personal food habits in the EU 2019, by country

In a 2019 survey, consumers in select EU member states were asked whether they thought their own food habits negatively affect the environment. On average, 54 percent of respondents disagreed that their food habits had a negative impact on the environment. The highest levels of disagreement were in Greece and Italy, where more than 70 percent of respondents did not think their own food habits negatively affect the environment. The countries where respondents agreed were Slovenia, Spain, and Portugal.
The environmental impacts of food varies by product, but meat production produces significantly more greenhouse gas emissions than others, especially beef.
