Leading municipalities for commuters in Italy 2019, by status
Among the largest cities in Italy, Rome has the highest number of people travelling daily for work or study purposes. In 2019, the municipality of Rome had 1.5 million commuters. Of these residents, one million people commuted for work reasons, while over 500 thousand were students. Milan had the second-highest number of commuters at over 780 thousand, of which the majority were employees.
