Distribution of commuters in Italy 2019, by destination and municipality
In Italy, commuters generally travel within their own municipality. In Rome, the city the largest number of commuters in Italy, there were 1.5 million daily travelers in 2019, of which 95 percent were moving within the same municipality of residence. On the contrary, Bologna and Verona were the two Italian cities recording the largest percentage of people commuting outside their own municipality, with about 20 percent of the total.
