The net assets of regulated open-end funds worldwide saw a sharp decline in the first quarter of 2020 due to the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but had recovered by the third quarter of 2021 before starting to decline again in the fourth quarter of 2021. An open-end fund is a diversified portfolio of collective money from investors, which can issue an unlimited amount of shares. At the end of the fourth quarter of 2022, total regulated open-end assets worldwide amounted to approximately 60.1 trillion U.S. dollars, while funds of funds assets amounted to just over 4.5 trillion U.S. dollars.
