Population growth in CIS 2021, by country

Tajikistan had the highest annual population growth rate among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), at 2.2 percent in 2021. Uzbekistan followed with nearly two percent year-over-year. While most countries in the region reported positive population growth rates, in some, the number of residents declined, such as by approximately 0.4 percent in Russia and by nearly 1.8 percent in Moldova.
