In 2020, energy and general prevention were the leading reasons for the consumption of functional food among survey respondents in the United States. These two categories, both at 23 percent of respondents, were followed by weight management, cardiovascular or cholesterol, and digestion or microbiome. All three conditions were being addressed by 21 percent of respondents with the use of functional foods.
