Hazardous waste import volume to Japan 2020, by status
In 2020, the volume of hazardous waste and other waste that was supposed to be imported to Japan for which a notification was sent from the exporting country amounted to over 72.1 thousand metric tons. The volume of waste for which the import approval was granted and for which the import movement documents were issued were smaller. Transboundary movements of waste that is defined as "hazardous waste and other waste" are regulated by the Japanese Basel Law.
