Domestic hotel guest arrivals in Cancún 2000-2020
Cancún's popularity among Mexican tourists grew significantly by the end of the 2000s. Between 2008 and 2009, the number of domestic tourist arrivals to hotels in the popular Mexican travel destination sprang from 1.1 million to 1.7 million, eventually reaching a peak of 2.6 million by 2019. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic harshly impacted these accommodation providers. Overall, hotels in Cancún recorded only around 1.1 million domestic guests in 2020.
