As of March 2023, Japan Railways' Tohoku Shinkansen was the longest high-speed railway line in the network, adding up to an operating length of around 713.7 kilometers. The Tohoku Shinkansen runs from Tokyo to Aomori in Aomori Prefecture, located at Japan's northeastern seacoast of the main island.
