Value of commercial services exports from Taiwan 2015-2022

In 2022, the export value of commercial services from Taiwan amounted to around 58.2 billion U.S. dollars, increasing from around 52 billion U.S. dollars in the previous year. In that year, approximately 37 percent of Taiwan’s total service exports were contributed by transport services.

Transport service exports

Taiwan exported approximately 21.6 million U.S. dollars of transport services in 2022, which mostly came from maritime transport services. Taiwan owns some of the busiest ports in Asia with more than 700 metric tons of cargo discharged or loaded in Taiwan. Kaohsiung Port, which is located in Southern Taiwan, handles the most container throughput.

Travel service exports

Travel service exports in Taiwan suffered from an almost 60 percent plunge in 2021, resulting from the global coronavirus pandemic. International tourism was a significant source for Taiwan’s foreign exchange, bringing in tens of billions of U.S. dollars in revenue each year. In 2022, however, the sector seemed to start recovering.
