According to a survey conducted in Japan during fiscal year 2023, 81.5 percent of the respondents stated that the internet is an important source of information. While more than three-quarters of the respondents stated the same about television, the share of people who thought this way about newspapers and magazines was considerably lower.

*The source counts the answers of the survey conducted in December 2023 as figures for fiscal year 2023. The Japanese fiscal year starts on April 1 of the stated year and ends on March 31 of the following year.
Respondents were asked how important they regarded each medium as "a means to gain information (source of information)." There were five possible answers: "Very important," "Important to a certain degree," "Neither," "Not really important," "Absolutely not important." The values shown in this statistic represent the combined share of respondents who answered either "Very important" or "Important to a certain degree."
