Average apartment rent in different metros in California 2017-2021

After decreasing in 2020, the average monthly rent of apartments in San-Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara and San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, California headed for recovery in 2021. Nevertheless, the average rent stayed below the monthly rate prior to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In Sacramento-Roseville-Folsom, on the other hand, rents continued rising during the pandemic and reached 1,915 U.S. dollars in September 2021, up from 1,612 U.S. dollars in September 2020. As of September 2021, the average monthly rent of a two-bedroom apartment in California was close to 2,000 U.S. dollars.
