Facebook outage: social media apps sessions growth week-over-week 2021
On Monday October 4th, Facebook services experienced a several hours outage, with Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, as well as the main Facebook social media platform being inaccessible to all users worldwide. As a result, users looked to other social media platforms and apps to stay connected. Among mobile apps, Snapchat reported the highest week-over-week growth in app openings, with 14 percent more Android users initiating sessions on the instant video messaging app. By comparison, Messenger reported a 15 percent decrease in sessions initiated among Android users.
