Japan: information channels for pre-owned houses 2021

A majority of households in Japan that bought pre-owned detached houses in the fiscal year 2021 had gathered information on properties online, a survey conducted between September and November 2022 found. While 61.7 percent used the internet to obtain information, around 41.7 percent turned to real estate agents.

*The number of responses includes 591 respondents in the three metropolitan areas Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya who received and returned questionnaires in person and 425 responses via postal questionnaire in all other regions. The number of respondents refers to those who have bought a pre-owned home, as the source does not report the exact number of those who have bought detached houses.
