
Major hurricane direct hits in the U.S. 1900-2021, by central pressure
The "Labor Day" hurricane, which hit Florida and Georgia in September 1935, was the most intense to make landfall in the U.S., based on central pressure, at 892 millibar. Five out of the 20 most intense hurricanes to make landfall in the country were registered since 2017 – namely Irma and Harvey (2017), Michael (2018), Laura (2020), and most recently, Ida (2021).
