Auction sales of top male vs female artists worldwide 2023

Between July 2022 and June 2023, the combined revenue of the five male contemporary artists recording the highest auction results amounted to roughly 454 million U.S. dollars. Revenue from sales of Jean-Michel Basquiat's artworks alone accounted for over 50 percent of that figure. Meanwhile, the combined sales of the five female contemporary artists with the highest auction results added up to around 103 million U.S. dollars as of the period considered.
