Mining companies contribution to government revenue in Tanzania 2018-2019
Geita Gold Mining Limited contributed nearly 190 billion Tanzanian shillings (TZS), around 82.4 million U.S. dollars, to Tanzania's government revenue in the financial year 2018/2019. This corresponded to some 30 percent of the total revenue collected from mining companies in the country during that period. A subsidiary of the global gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti, Geita Gold Mining Limited is the largest gold producer in Tanzania. As a comparison, the second in the ranking, North Mara Gold Mine Limited contributed 85.6 billion TZS (37 million U.S. dollars) to Tanzania's government revenue.
