Auction houses: online-only sales worldwide 2023

The aggregated online-only auction sales of Christie's, Sotheby's, and Phillips declined slightly in 2023 compared to the previous year. After increasing sharply in 2020 with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the combined online-only sales value of the three auction houses peaked at 1.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2021. It then experienced a decreasing trend in the following two years, reaching 890 million U.S. dollars in 2023 but remaining significantly higher than the figure reported in 2019.
