The volume of futures traded on the ASX 24 fluctuated greatly between January 2020 and May 2024. From a peak of 24 million trades in March 2020, trades dropped as low as 6.8 million in January 2021. In May 2024 there were over 14 million trades.
Futures are financial derivatives which require the buying or selling of an asset for a specified price at an agreed time in the future. Unlike options, futures obligate the buyer and seller to carry out the transaction.
