Share of urban and rural population with electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa 2010-2020
Nearly 80 percent of the urban population in Sub-Saharan Africa had access to electricity in 2020. On the other hand, only roughly one-third of inhabitants from rural areas were connected to electric energy that year. Access to electricity in both areas of residence has slowly improved since 2010. Overall, electric energy was accessible to less than half of the total population in Sub-Saharan Africa.
