South Africa had the largest solar energy capacity in Africa as of 2021, reaching over six gigawatts. This corresponded to roughly 54.6 percent of Africa's total solar energy capacity that year. Egypt recorded the second biggest capacity, at 1.7 gigawatts. Morocco followed with 774 megawatts of solar energy capacity.
