Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Bulgaria recorded a rise in its freight volume of 16 percent year-over-year. By contrast, Latvia recorded a loss of almost half its freight volume between 2019 and 2020. Latvia further recorded the steepest slump in freight train departures in Europe during that same time period.
