Overall employment in the U.S. health sector dropped sharply at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, and has slowly recovered since then. However, as of November 2021, it was still 2.7 percent lower than in February 2020. A closer look at health employment in different settings shows that while employment in hospitals and physician offices have increased to figures similar to before the pandemic, the number of workers employed at community care facilities for the elderly and nursing care facilities continued to decrease.
