Ireland: children who had negative online experiences 2020, by age group
A survey conducted in Ireland in 2020 asked children if they had experienced anything online that had upset or bothered them in some way in the past year. Overall, 21 percent of respondents in the 15 to 17 year age group said that they had had negative online experiences in the past year. Of eleven to twelve year old respondents, eight percent stated that they had been bothered or upset by something they had seen online. Examples of online content that made young users feel scared, upset or uncomfortable, were instances such as people being nasty to each other (24 percent) and bullying (22 percent).
