Cumulative CO₂ emissions in India 1860-2021
India has produced a total of 57.1 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions (GtCO₂) since the birth of the industrial revolution more than 200 years. Cumulative CO₂ emissions in India reached 11 GtCO₂ by 1990, but since then a further 46 GtCO₂ have been released. The rapid rise in emissions means India is now the seventh biggest carbon polluter in history. Despite being a major polluter, India has contributed far less to historical global emissions than countries such as the United States and China.
